ICON 4.5” Lift Kit for F-150 – No Drop Brackets, No Bull

It sounded wild to us too… until we installed it. ICON’s newest 3.5–4.5" system for the 2021+ F-150 is changing the game by delivering lift and performance without the geometry sacrifices that plague most “big lift” kits.

We put this setup to the test in the shop and out on the street, pairing the front coilover system with ICON’s RXT leaf springs in the rear. Here’s everything we learned - and why we think this could be one of the best bolt-on lift kits available today.

No Drop Brackets, Just Smart Engineering

The core of this system is ICON’s proprietary Delta Joint Pro upper control arms, which provide a massive 90° of articulation - far more than the stock ball joint’s limited range. The design allows full front-end extension without binding, even under aggressive articulation. In testing, the arms maintained clearance through the full range of motion, where other kits would be maxed out or worse - damaging components.

But the Delta Joint alone isn’t what enables this much lift.

The secret sauce? ICON’s own steel knuckle, designed in-house to replicate and improve on the Ford Tremor’s geometry. Compared to the stock aluminum knuckle, ICON’s unit raises the upper ball joint pickup point by ⅝", which eliminates spring contact issues at full droop. That repositioning also improves arm and tie rod geometry - reducing the dreaded bump steer that plagues other lift kits.

Knuckle Geometry: What Changed

Let’s break it down:

  • Upper Ball Joint: Moved higher and slightly outward → allows more droop without contact.
  • Lower Ball Joint: Similar position, but angled to align with the upper for consistent motion.
  • Tie Rod Pickup: Raised ~¼" → flattens steering angles, reduces toe change under compression.

The result? Better alignment, minimal bump steer, and far more usable suspension travel - all without a drop bracket.

Rear Suspension: RXT Leaf Springs Done Right

Stock F-150 leaf springs are… fine. But not great. ICON’s RXT leaf pack, originally built for Gen 2 Raptors, gives the F-150’s rear end a much-needed upgrade.

Here's what we used:

  • ICON RXT multi-rate leaf springs
  • ICON 2.0 rear shocks
  • ICON 1" drop shackles

With the factory blocks removed, we netted about 1.5” of rear lift. More importantly, this setup offered vastly better ride control and handling under load. The multi-leaf pack provides three ride height/load configurations via an included add-a-leaf. We ran the lightest load configuration.

Bonus: the military wrap + forward half-leaf reduces axle wrap - a common issue with high-torque trucks like this Coyote-powered build (blower incoming). Axle hop? Controlled. Rear-end sag under load? Gone.

Road Test: Surprisingly Plush, Incredibly Stable

Let’s be real: most 4+ inch lifts ride like trash. Not this one.

We hit the street first, driving our typical industrial loop with speed bumps, driveways, and fast turns. Here’s what stood out:

  • Small bump compliance: The plushest we’ve ever felt on an F-150.
  • Body control: Slight roll, but tight and predictable.
  • Top-out resistance: Virtually non-existent - even on steep driveway transitions.
  • Bump steer: None. Nada. Zero.

Even with a super aggressive wheel offset (not recommended), we felt no weird handling or twitchy steering behavior. Every other lifted F-150 we’ve driven topped out or got unsettled in this exact same loop. Not here.

Off-Camber Articulation & Downhill Control

One of our key tests includes a steep driveway with cross articulation, ideal for pushing the suspension to the edge of its travel.

  • Most kits: Top out hard or get light in the rear.
  • ICON 4.5” kit: Planted, smooth, and in control.

Downhill sections that usually trip up other suspensions? This one cruised right through. The cab remained level. Tires stayed planted. No unpredictable weight transfers. It's clear that the added droop - and optimized geometry - paid dividends.

Raptor-Like Street Feel?

This might sound dramatic, but it’s true: for everyday driving over broken pavement, this setup felt as close to a Gen 2 Raptor as we’ve ever experienced on a standard F-150 chassis.

You still don’t get the travel of a true long-travel kit off-road, but for on-road comfort, it’s nearly unbeatable at this ride height. If you want that floaty, plush-but-confident feel for daily driving, this kit delivers it.

Downsides? Not Many.

This isn’t a cheap setup. And you’re not just dropping it in with no thought:

  • Requires ICON knuckles, UCAs, and struts - this isn’t a budget lift kit.
  • Rear leaf spring install can be labor intensive.
  • No drop brackets means you're relying entirely on ICON’s geometry - and thankfully, it works.

Honestly, the only “issue” we found was minor tire rub from overly aggressive wheels - something you can avoid with proper fitment.

Verdict: Who This Kit Is For

If you're lifting your 2021+ F-150 and want performance without compromise, this is it.

Ideal for:

  • Daily drivers who demand Raptor-level comfort
  • Off-roaders who want full travel and no top-out
  • Truck owners sick of drop brackets and poor geometry
  • Anyone planning forced induction or towing and wants real axle control

Not ideal for:

  • Budget builds
  • Owners unwilling to invest in high-end components

Final Thoughts: ICON Changed the Game

The ICON 4.5" kit proves that big lift doesn’t have to mean bad geometry. With innovative knuckles, the best UCAs on the market, and a rear spring setup that fixes axle wrap and ride harshness in one go - this kit is hard to beat.

If you're shopping for a high-clearance, no-compromise suspension system for your F-150, this is it. Don't bolt on a drop bracket just because it’s easy - get the real performance you paid for.
