Old Man Emu BP-51 Shocks Install - Toyota 4Runner

Posted by Sean Reyes on

Old Man Emu is a trusted brand in the off-road community, offering high-quality suspension systems and accessories for vehicles of all types. The installation of the Old Man Emu BP51 front coilovers and rear shocks are pretty straight forward. One part that may be slightly different from other brands, or non-reservoir setups, are the unique reservoir mounts in the OME kit.

We’ve installed all sorts of reservoir shock setups on many different Toyotas, and no two reservoir mounts are the same. The front and rear mounting kits are also unique to the BP51 shocks, since the 2.8 inch bodies require special clearance requirements in the rear of the vehicle.

Old Man Emu BP-51 Overview

  • Compression Adjustment
  • Rebound Adjustment
  • Internal Bypass
  • 3 Year Warranty
  • Remote Reservoirs

These shocks offer tremendous versatility for your vehicle, allowing many different ride configurations depending what's on the menu. If it's a light-load weekend ripping through the desert, set those shocks in the firmer compression zone and higher rebound setup in order to keep those tires planted to the dirt, comfort be damned. If it's an easy trail weekend with a heavy load, set the shocks a bit looser for some more comfort, without the need for handling fast and tough obstacles.

Out of the box, the ride is quite a bit more comfortable compared to stock, while still maintaining good handling characteristics. With the compression and rebound settings easily available to adjust, you can go even softer from there! But when it's time to hit the trails and you want tighter handling in moderate terrain, or you want max control in the fast stuff at 40-50mph, turn up the response with the settings to be able to take the unpredictable yet inevitable big hits.
