Rancho's new RS9000XL shock absorbers feature adjustable damping with either a 2.75- or 2.38-in. diameter reserve tube. This massive shock body allows the RS9000XL to run cooler and more consistent even under the most demanding towing conditions, enhancing performance and durability, and is constructed with a larger than typical 18-mm diameter chromed piston rod. Rancho RS9000XL shock series are engineered with nine position tuning technology that provides nine different levels of shock performance, allowing adjustment from very soft to very firm. These premium shocks also have polyurethane bushings that enhance shock performance.

The Expert's Opinion
"Rancho's offering covers the most diverse application list out of all the brands here at Shock Surplus, giving a ton of options for drivers looking for economical performance. Our favorites are the monotube RS7MT for the best comfort, or the RS9000XL for vehicles that need daily comfort and weekend performance."
INFORMATION
Questions? We've got answers
Rancho shocks are typically tuned to deliver a firmer, more controlled ride than stock, especially on trucks and SUVs that carry extra weight or see off-road use. On pavement, you’ll usually notice improved stability with less body roll and better control over bumps, though the ride can feel a bit stiffer compared to softer factory shocks.
Off-road and under load is where Rancho really shines. They’re designed to handle rough terrain, towing, and added weight with confidence, keeping the vehicle more composed over uneven surfaces and repeated hits. Adjustable models, like the RS9000XL, let you fine-tune the firmness, so you can soften things up for daily driving or stiffen them for hauling and trails.
Overall, Rancho shocks are a great fit if you want a durable, more heavy-duty ride feel with the ability to handle tougher conditions, even if that comes with a slightly firmer on-road experience.
Some Rancho shocks are adjustable, but not all models include this feature. Entry-level options like the RS5000X are non-adjustable, with fixed valving designed for a consistent, out-of-the-box ride.
However, Rancho is best known for their RS9000XL series, which features a manual adjustment knob with 9 levels of firmness. This allows you to easily dial the shocks softer for daily driving or stiffer for towing, hauling, or off-road use.
In short, Rancho offers both fixed and adjustable options but if you’re looking for tunability, the RS9000XL line is where Rancho really stands out.
Click the 'Select Your Vehicle' button above the 'Add to Cart' button to make sure the shocks fit your exact vehicle. If needed, the site will send you to the right shocks for your ride. If your vehicle has been lifted, use the dropdown menu to pick the correct lift height. For example, if you have a Rough Country 6-inch lift kit, choose Front 4–6" and Rear 3–4" (the rear is usually smaller than the front). Still not sure? Our sales team is happy to help.
Rancho shocks typically last around 40,000–50,000 miles under normal driving conditions, which is in line with most non-rebuildable shock absorbers. For trucks that spend most of their time on pavement, they can last longer, while frequent off-road use, towing, or rough terrain can shorten their lifespan.
Like any shock, performance tends to fade gradually over time. If you start to notice increased bouncing, reduced control, or a harsher ride, it’s usually a sign the shocks are wearing out and ready for replacement.
Overall, Rancho shocks are built to be a durable, long-lasting option, and many models are backed by a limited lifetime warranty—giving you added confidence for long-term use.
