Affected by the Toyota Recall 26V514000? Or maybe you just dont like the Bilstein ESCV shocks in general and want to switch. Lets dig in.
We've tested a ton of shocks across the Tacoma platform, and were surprised by how uncomfortable the red Bilstein ESCV shocks are on the 2024+ Tacoma models. Bilstein's ESCV features in the shocks mean that at full compression and full rebound, the internal piston runs into secondary pistons to slow down the main piston before reaching the end of the stroke.
The stocks were so stiff that it seemed that the suspension would rather let the wheels leave the ground then properly cycle, our test driver Sean Bowman rarely gets this unsettled during a ride review.

These alternatives all get you more comfort compared to the stock red Bilstein shocks on these Tacomas:
Bilstein 5100
Similar in handling feel to the Bilstein ESCV, but far more comfort overall due to not running into the end stops constantly during normal daily driving. These 5100s are still a monotube design, but dont contain the end stops at full compression or rebound. From our experience testing Bilstein 5100 shocks across countless other applications, the lack of ESCV isn't a big issue for most drivers - especially if the Tacoma is just a commuter 99% of the time.
An added bonus is that the Bilstein 5100 can lift the front of the Tacoma by 2.5-inches to level the truck, using the factory springs.

Eibach Pro Truck Sport Shocks
Eibach's PTS shocks are one of our go-to recommendations for a daily driven truck that also likes to see the dirt on the weekends. Eibach's valving isn't quite as digressive as Bilstein's, which translates to more forgiving and softer bump compliance on the highways and rougher terrain.
The Eibach Pro Truck Sport shocks for the 24+ Tacoma also allow front ride height adjustment between factory height and up to 2-inches of lift, using factory springs.

Bilstein 6112 60mm Shocks
If you've already thought going big and upgrading the suspension on your 2024+ Tacoma, now's a good time to tell yourself (or your wife) "those red shocks aren't going to last!." The Bilstein 6112 and 6100 shocks are a huge step up in performance and overall comfort compared to the stock ESCV shocks, and superior to the 5100 or Eibach options above.
While these shocks are designed for more abuse offroad, there's still plenty of benefits for the daily driver and weekend adventurer. The larger piston (60mm) has an easier time damping all the irregularities on your commute; large highway joints, big driveway changes, potholes, rough roads.
